Skoda has taken the Indian market seriously under its new strategy. It recently launched the Slavia to take on the sedan segment. The Slavia comes with two TSI turbo-petrol engine options, a 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre. The 1.0-litre will be the obvious choice for most people, but the 1.5-litre is also quite a competent option. In today’s article, we will see why you should consider the 1.5-litre engine of the Skoda Slavia.
Much better than 1.0-litre
It should come as no surprise that the 1.5-litre engine is much better than the 1.0-litre engine. Not only is it more powerful than the 1.0-litre, but it is also much more refined. It offers a smooth linear flow of power, offering a comfortable ride.
Skoda Slavia 1.5-litre – competes with other 2.0-litre engines
The 1.0-litre TSI engine of the Slavia is the true competitor to cars like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz. The 1.5-litre TSI engine of the Slavia however sits in a league of its own. Power-figure wise, the 1.5-litre TSI competes with 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engines.
Active cylinder tech with engine start stop
The Slavia comes with active cylinder technology. This technology activates and deactivates cylinders according to the power requirement. The tech is quite beneficial to increase fuel efficiency. It also comes with engine start-stop function which is a good feature to have in start-stop traffic.
Surprisingly the 1.5-litre TSI engine on the Slavia offers good mileage. The active cylinder tech as mentioned above helps it increase its fuel efficiency. The 1.5-litre TSI has a claimed mileage of 18.72kmpl (manual) and 18.41kmpl (DSG). It is quite comparable to the 1.0-litre TSI that has a claimed mileage of 19.47kmpl (manual) and 18.07kmpl (torque converter automatic).
Skoda Slavia 1.5-litre – DSG gearbox
The 1.5-litre engine comes mated to Skoda’s DSG gearbox. Direct-shift gearboxes are more commonly known as dual-clutch transmissions. The DSG gearbox paired to the 1.5-litre engine offers smooth and quick gear shifts.
